Sand

Maria Sand (b. 1981) is a Norwegian writer and actress, born in Oslo and now based between Oslo and Palermo. Her work moves between literature, theatre, and film.

She made her literary debut in 2015 with the novel Hold pusten så lenge du kan, followed by the critically acclaimed generational novel Malurtveien 10 (2019).

Sand trained as an actress in Rome, where she lived for ten years and studied at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, before completing a master's degree at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHiO). She has worked extensively in Norwegian and international film, television, and theatre, and has performed at institutions including the National Theatre in Oslo, Det Norske Teatret, and Riksteatret. She has also adapted Jon Fosse's novel Det er Ales for the stage, in a production performed in Norway and Italy.

Her latest novel, All That Is Mine Is Yours (Alt mitt er ditt, 2026), is a sweeping family saga spanning five generations and a century of European history, from a Tuscan village in the 1920s to present-day Oslo and Palermo. Published to glowing reviews, the novel quickly became a major literary and commercial success in Norway. Its film and television rights have been optioned by Academy Award–nominated filmmakers Mona Fastvold and Brady Corbet (The Testament of Ann Lee, The Brutalist) through their production company Pre-Code.
